About Us

Toronto Applied Karate is a complete self defense training system based on the Wado Ryu style of karate, but augmented with a higher degree of Jiu Jitsu (grappling). We are affiliated with the World Combat Association (WCA), which has also approved our syllabus.  The WCA is headed by Peter Consterdine and instructed by Iain Abernethy.

About Our Chief Instructor

Our dojo's chief instructor is Cam Dickinson, who has been practicing martial arts for 20+ years. Cam holds a 3rd degree black belt in Wado Ryu karate (a mixture of karate and jiu jitsu), a 2nd degree black belt in Shotokan karate, and is a WCA certified instructor.

He has successfully competed both provincially and nationally, as well as coached kids and adults at the provincial level of competition. Cam has also taught self defense classes to men and women of all ages.

Cam's teaching philosophy is: "While we are passionate about teaching martial arts to students of all ages, shapes and sizes, we do so in an environment that is both safe and fun. We encourage all our students to set goals for what they want to get out of the classes, and then we get to work in making those goals a reality."

Volunteering

We view our club as a community. As a Nor-For-Profit, all members are encouraged to give back to this community through helping out within the club. From sweeping the floor, all the way to co-instructing, we see this as vital to ensuring that the club continues to thrive.
